charlie o'connor memorial trophy

Originating from Paterson, Charlie O'Connor came to Western Suburbs Cricket Club after the great flood of 1955 ... and will remain a part of this club forever.

Charlie played for over 2 decades with Western Suburbs, including over 200 appearances in 1st Grade. He held the record for most appearances in the top grade for Western Suburbs from 1966-67 until 1997-98. His tally of 646 1st Grade wickets stands head and shoulders above any other bowler to play in the top grade for Western Suburbs - effectively 3 times as many wickets as 2nd position for Western Suburbs 1st Grade.

However, the Charlie O'Connor Memorial Trophy is not awarded for statistical feats on the cricket pitch, it is awarded to the player who most demonstrates the clubmanship and dedication to Western Suburbs Cricket Club that Charlie did in his time with the club. The legacy of Charlie O'Connor remains not only as the champion leg-spinner ... but that of the champion club man.
